
About the Opportunity
Gain hands-on experience inside a locally driven nonprofit organisation (NGO) working to improve the lives of rural communities through infrastructure, education, and sustainable development projects.
The internship offers a unique opportunity to understand how a local NGO operates from the ground up—from identifying communities and families most in need to coordinating international volunteers, supporting development projects, communicating with donors, and measuring long-term impact.
Rather than following a one-size-fits-all internship structure, participants can explore different areas of the organisation based on their interests and career goals.
You will combine office-based work with occasional fieldwork, allowing you to experience both strategic and practical sides of development work in Cambodia.
Key Responsibilities
- Depending on your interests and the organisation’s current priorities, you may contribute to:
Community Assessment & Social Work
- Join the Social Worker team when visiting local communities.
- Learn how families and communities are identified and assessed based on established selection criteria.
- Observe and contribute to the interview and assessment process.
- Evaluate existing processes and suggest improvements based on community needs.
International Volunteer Coordination
- Support the full volunteer journey, from registration and communication to welcoming volunteers in Cambodia.
- Assist with orientations, logistics, project scheduling, and site coordination.
- Help maintain records of volunteers, groups, and ongoing projects.
- Explore new approaches to volunteer recruitment and engagement.
Donor Communications & Storytelling
- Support social media management and digital communications.
- Create engaging stories and content highlighting community projects and their impact.
- Assist with monthly newsletters and donor communications.
- Develop content that strengthens engagement with existing audiences and reaches new supporters.
Grant Writing & Fundraising
- Research trusts, foundations, organisations, and travel groups aligned with the NGO’s mission,
- Help develop real grant proposals and fundraising initiatives.
- Contribute to volunteer recruitment campaigns and outreach emails.
- Gain practical experience in how NGOs identify and secure funding.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
- Work alongside the Project Officer team to understand how development projects are evaluated
- Participate in follow-up visits to assess the long-term impact of projects.
- Help collect and communicate information about project outcomes.
- Explore how monitoring and evaluation can strengthen transparency and donor confidence.
Community Development & Construction

- Work alongside the Construction and Coordination teams at project sites.
- Gain first-hand insight into how community infrastructure projects are planned and delivered.
- Understand the practical challenges involved in implementing projects in rural communities.
