InternshipSEA and the ASEAN-UK Young Leaders Initiative (ASEAN-UK YLI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalising a strategic partnership that will create new opportunities for UK graduates and young professionals to build careers and connections across Southeast Asia.
The agreement marks a significant step forward for both organisations and reinforces a shared commitment to developing the next generation of internationally minded professionals — bridging the United Kingdom and the ten-nation ASEAN bloc through meaningful professional experience, dialogue, and youth leadership.
About the Partnership
InternshipSEA is a UK-based internship placement organisation that connects graduates and young professionals with professional roles in Cambodia and across Southeast Asia. Through its end-to-end placement service — covering everything from role sourcing and visa support to in-country accommodation and ongoing pastoral care — InternshipSEA enables UK graduates to gain real-world international experience in one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing regions.
The ASEAN-UK Young Leaders Initiative is a youth-led organisation dedicated to connecting, promoting, and developing ASEAN-UK relations through dialogue, research, and youth diplomacy. With an active presence across both the UK and Southeast Asia, ASEAN-UK YLI brings together young leaders from across the ASEAN region and the United Kingdom to build the cross-cultural ties that will define the bilateral relationship for decades to come.
Together, the two organisations are well placed to deliver something neither could achieve alone: a structured, supported pathway that takes a UK graduate from ambition to action — from wanting to work in Southeast Asia to actually building a career there.

What the MoU Means in Practice
The partnership will enable InternshipSEA and ASEAN-UK YLI to collaborate on a range of initiatives designed to expand and deepen the professional and personal experience of UK graduates in Southeast Asia. These include joint programming, shared networks, and coordinated outreach to UK universities and graduate communities.
For InternshipSEA interns, the partnership with ASEAN-UK YLI opens access to a broader community of young professionals across the ASEAN region — extending the value of a placement well beyond the immediate role and organisation. For ASEAN-UK YLI members and alumni, InternshipSEA’s placement infrastructure and in-country expertise provide a practical, supported route into professional life in Southeast Asia.
Reactions to the Signing
Commenting on the agreement, a spokesperson for InternshipSEA said:
“This partnership reflects exactly what InternshipSEA is about — not just placing graduates in jobs, but placing them in a future. ASEAN-UK YLI shares our belief that the relationship between the UK and Southeast Asia is built by people, not just policy. We are proud to be working together to give more young professionals the opportunity to be part of that story.”
A representative from the ASEAN-UK Young Leaders Initiative added:
“ASEAN-UK YLI exists to connect the next generation of leaders across our two regions. Our partnership with InternshipSEA is a natural extension of that mission — giving young people not just the ambition to engage with Southeast Asia, but the practical means to do so. We look forward to building something meaningful together.”
A Growing Network Across Southeast Asia
The MoU with ASEAN-UK YLI adds to InternshipSEA’s expanding network of institutional partners in Cambodia and the wider region, which includes BritCham Cambodia, the British Chevening Alumni Association of Cambodia, Cambodia Lifestyle, and REAK — InternshipSEA’s trusted in-country accommodation partner.
This network reflects InternshipSEA’s belief that a successful international internship is about more than a job title. It is about arriving in a country with a community already behind you — professional contacts, cultural support, and the connections that turn a placement into a launchpad.
